Fortezza da Basso – Launch of the Tender for the New Bellavista Pavilion, Featuring a 2,500-Seat Convention Hall

Congresses

Florence, 15th November 2022. With an investment of 26 million Euros, the new Bellavista pavilion will take shape at the Fortezza da Basso, in the area between the headquarters of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, the former Machiavelli High School and the Arsenale Pavilion – an area currently occupied by the former Court’s warehouse and by the temporary Rastriglia Pavilion, that will be demolished – featuring an executive project recently approved by the Florence City Council. This operation goes hand in hand with the approval of the definitive project for the third stage of the restoration work of the Imperiale and Strozzi Bastions, with an investment of over 1.2 million Euros.

Within ten days, we will launch the tender for the new Bellavista Pavilion work – said Titta Meucci, Municipal Councillor for Public Works – The realisation of the pavilion will be preceded by a war reclamation operation of the area and will be actively monitored by archaeologists to protect the pre-existing structures. The covering of the pavilion will complement the landscape visit path on the walls and the bastions, which is now under planning”.

The executive project, on an overall surface of 5,100 square metres, implies the realisation of a hall with over 2,500 seats, an exhibiting room, a system of external pathways, hanging gardens, terraces, and green coverage areas to maximise functionality and the recovery of monuments. The property will consist of a level entirely devoted to congresses and trade fairs, a basement mainly intended for catering services, storage, and toilets, and a first level for systems and to access the roofing with hanging gardens and external pathways. The organisation of the building and the use of the chosen materials, processes, and building methods will contribute to health protection, minimizing the use of non-renewable materials thanks to a selection of eco-friendly materials.
